Let’s Talk About Justin Herbert

It’s pretty clear that Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert is one of the most controversial players in terms of how good he is. Depending on who you talk to, Herbert might be overrated or underrated. I think he is a clear cut top five quarterback in the league, having him ranked No. 4. Herbert can get overrrated at times but comparing him to guys like Jared Goff and Tua Tagovailoa who are barely top 15 quarterbacks is disrespectful.

Herbert does not get enought credit for his clutchness. Herbert has started 49 regular season games and has a total of 13 game-winning drives. That averages out to be one game-winning drive over the span of about four games. In his rookie year, he had three game-winning drives, and all of them, in a row. He would probably have more but the defense likes to lose games at the end.

People like to discredit Herbert because his career record is 25-24. Not sure when we started judging quarterbacks by win percentage. Some will say Herbert is not a top five QB because of his win percentage but those same people will say Trevor Lawrence is better, who has a worse win percentage than Herbert (12-22).

Herbert has been in the league for three years and has been one of the best quarterbacks. He also won rookie of the year in 2020.

Herbert’s 2021 season tends to be overlooked. He had an MVP type season that year. Aaron Rodgers ended up winning MVP with 4,115 passing yards, 40 total touchdowns, and just four interceptions. Herbert posted almost 900 more yards, but did have more interceptions. Since the Chargers missed the playoffs in 2021, Herbert was not even considered for MVP.

Herbert also has a lot of franchise and NFL records.
